Back in August, the TV station I work at ran a story on the exploding cat population in our area. This screan capture is one of the images that has always stayed with me from the story. This cat with her head resting against the bars of her cage looks like she's given up hope.
Please, if you have a pet, have them neutered or spayed to help control the pet population. If you don't have a pet, please consider taking in one an animal form a local animal shelter.

SAVE-A-PET in Port Jefferson Station, Long Island New York works on getting homes for abandoned and homeless animals. They have a little house that they work out of and in front there is a walkway with bricks that people buy and have their deceased pets names engraved on them
